Cordless Cellular Shades

Choosing the Best Cellular Shades

Example of a Cellular Shade
Welcome to my blog all about interior designs and how to cover your windows using the latest and best cellular blinds. Over the coming months ahead I will be looking at a variety of window shades for your home both inside and outside styles offering heat insulation, privacy and style.

In our first post I would like to talk about cordless cellular shades which have recently seen a resurgence as a result of a number of high profile incidents whereby children have suffered injury as a result of becoming trapped within the dangerous draw cords of traditional window blinds.

What are Cellular Shades?

Cellular shades as the picture above shows are constructed from a number of 'compartments' which are compressed together to form a window blind. The way in which the design of cellular shades are created means that air becomes trapped within the cellular compartments thereby offering extremely efficient energy insulation. You will certainly notice the difference if you have never tried these types of window blinds as they perform much better than traditional fabrics or plastics which do not retain the heat within the home anywhere near as efficiently.

Are Cellular Shades Safe for Small Children?

Cordless cellular blinds are a recent invention as a result of children suffering harm at the hands of drawstring cords from curtains, drapes and window blinds. As a result, there was a need for a window covering system which functioned well yet was safe in terms of not providing a method for small children to become entangled within the cords. As the name suggests, cordless cellular shades do not have any cord or drawstring which can be considered dangerous. The way in which these window blinds function is generally through a spring mechanism which is gently pulled from the bottom of the blind to release it. You then simply allow the blind to raise up or down as required - all with no cords.

Insulating Properties

There is a marked difference in the energy efficiency of cellular blinds in comparison to traditional window coverings. As discussed earlier the combination of cells which trap air help to ensure that heat loss through the windows is kept to a minimum. As a result, you will find that even on the dullest of days these types of window blinds will retain heat allowing you to turn your central heating down a notch and thus saving on your energy bills.

There is no doubt that cordless blinds and particularly the cellular variety offer a safe alternative to traditional window shades and are especially useful for families with small children.
